Interesting Facts.
How many pallet collars?
Do you know how many collars are in use in Europe? Over 500,000,000 - that's right half a billion! 15,000,000 new collars are manufactured every year. The Swedish auto industry runs on collars. Most suppliers use pallet collars on pallets to transport their goods to the various auto manufacturers. 95% of factories in Sweden use collars for storage in their racking systems. When they deliver goods they charge an "emballage" (packaging) fee. The next company then uses the collars and again passes the fee on to their customer and so on . . . and the system works well as an inter company transfer.
Hardwood Collars.
About six months ago Pallet Collars Australia started to experiment making hardwood collars. Now hardwood is very expensive, so we had to find a way to get it cheaper to keep the cost of the collars down. So after a lot of experimenting with different end sections and profiles we have found a solution. The hardwood pallet collars PCA now make are made from kiln dried short length offcuts from various producers of hardwood. This is timber they could not otherwise sell. The program we now have allows the producer to make their premium hardwood product and provide us with the short material they were not able to use. The hardwood collar takes a lot more labour to manufacture but consider this: it uses "unwanted" timber, it is a superior product (very strong), it will last for a very long time and it look great. Now there's a win / win situation. The down side is that the availability of hardwood collars is limited as they take so long to manufacture. But if they are in stock you really should try some out.
